Just north of Clarach is the submerged "causeway" called Sarn Gynfelyn, running for seven miles, legend says that at the end was a royal residence Care Wyddno (Fort of Gwyddno). There is a 5000 year old submerged forest to the North near Borth. It has been suggested that the ridges at right angles to the land are moraines left behind by glaciers.
