This building No 18 Jamaica Street was originally constructed around 1860 as a 5-storey commercial warehouse. The cinema conversion was designed by William B Whitie, and utilised the basement to the second storey. It opened as the Grand Central cinema in 1915, seating 750. The venue was closed in 1966, and was unused until it reopened in 1973 under the name Classic Grand, exclusively showing X-rated porn movies, seating 365. It became the Cannon-Grand in 1985, and finally closed as a cinema in 1992. The building was used as an amusement arcade before being reopened as the Classic Grand nightclub. The interior, although badly damaged by a fire in 2001, retains some of its original Art Deco features. The structure has been protected as a category B listed building since December 1970.

Lion Chambers, 172 Hope Street, a miniature skyscraper of unashamed concrete towering eight storeys above the pavement. It was built between 1904-1907 for WG Black, the lawyer, writer and member of the Glasgow Art Club, so lower floors above a ground-floor shop contain lawyers' chambers, while at the top were artists' studios. Sadly, this building is now in such decay, it won't be too long until the demolition teams move in.

Guildhall building, 57 Queen Street Originally, it was known as the Hunter Barr Building - a seven storey warehouse designed by David Barclay between 1899 and 1903. A Grade B listed structure, which was gutted, with only the facade retained and converted to offices in 1986 - it was the first "atrium" type building to go up in the city from a facade retention, which set the pattern for many to follow.
