The shadows point to it being late afternoon and as the streets seem rather deserted it must be a Sunday.

Originally horse car sheds, adapted in 1903 to temporarly house electric cars while the depot in Clapham was built. Situated in Marius Road the sheds closed in 1904 but was later used when the LCC introduced trailer cars between 1915 and 1922. Consisting of six roads each capable of housing 7 or 8 trailers the depot had a capacity for 48 cars. As The cars had such short working lives many were sold on to become dwellings or outhouses. A photograph of the sheds was used as a commercial postcard in a series by Pamlin of Croydon.

A bomb dropped here in the middle of the road by the United Dairies shop in 1940 causing a bus to dive into the large crater. The subsequent photos of the incident became famous.
