Originally named as 10th Avenue as all the roads in Low Hill were numbered. Then some were given names and 10th Avenue became Kempthorne Avenue after Bishop Kempthorne, Anglican Bishop of Lichfield 1923 to 1937

The site has been redeveloped for Housing by the Wrekin Housing Trust building houses on the extensive pub garden. St Chad's College Roman Catholic Grammar School (boys only). It is noteworthy that a number of the teaching staff were Marist Brothers, a religious order that specialised in Education. In the 1980's the school joined with Our Lady of Mercy Grammar School (girls only)which was sited in St John's Square Wolverhampton and became Our Lady and St Chad's Comprehensive School.
