Page & Overtons Brewery Ltd, Shirley Brewery, Overtons Yard, Surrey Street. Founded by Henry Overton in 1854. Merged with The Nathaniel Page of the Shirley Brewery 1889 form Page & Overton’s Brewery Ltd. In 1903, the Shirley Brewery was closed and the Royal Oak Brewery in Surrey Street was renamed the Shirley Brewery. Taken over by Hoare & Co Ltd in 1929 and brewing ceased in 1954. Demolished in 1972 but a small part still remains as a nightclub at No.8 Overton’s Yard.

Nalder & Collyers Brewery Co Ltd.Croydon Brewery, 123 High Street. Brewing started in the site prior to 1586. The company was taken over by The City Of London Brewery Co in 1919 for around 1 million pounds.. The site continued to brew until 1936 when the City of London Brewery closed the Croydon brewery and also Stansfeld's Swan Brewery at Fulham. Brewery demolished in 1964 but the office are still standing (2018).

Location of The Nest, formerly home to Crystal Palace FC and Croydon Common. Some suggest that part of the shed is the old stand - this image shows all footballing buildings other than the wall and entrance had been demolished.
