 The Wharf.
Attached photo is a postcard from 1910 taken from the River Flit looking back towards the buildings on The Wharf on the left hand side (now a modern development of flats) and the Southbridge Street road bridge. Postcard is titled River Ivel as the Flit joins into the Ivel just beyond where the photo has been taken.

Opened by the Midland Railway in 1857 to Hitchen to join the Great Northern line into Kings Cross. However, the GN was not very cooperative about running the MR's trains into London, and by 1868 the MR had opened its 'London Extension' into the new St Pancras station. This line then became a branch line and eventually was closed by BR in 1962. |
