Ribbleton Avenue complete with tram. I had a trip along Ribbleton Avenue in a hybrid electric and diesel Preston Number 8 Bus route last Monday 8th January so I should be familiar with the area.

There appears to be no parapet on this bridge, on this side. Is it a canal?

Obelisk 10'? Marble?

On closer examination, I think it is a cross. I have, also, failed to find anything promising googling for church with obelisk.

I've found the other subject!

It is Rainford Hall, Rainford as in EPW026164 and EPW026165

Dear all,

Thank you for persevering with this very difficult image.

As we have one location, I am going to catalogue the image on the basis of the Emerson Cotton Mill exposure. The country house is perhaps the stronger image in this double-exposure, but it has not been identified (yet). I will reflect this in the caption.

Many congratulations!

I can enlighten everyone on half of this photo. It is almost identical to EPW026291. We can see Blackpool Road A 5085 with the Preston to Longridge Railway going under the underbridge. This is a view looking north. I am 100% confident because everything fits. As to the other exposure - I can't help with that. We could call half of this The Emerson Cotton Mill- Preston.

Blimey, what a mess! There's a factory chimney growing out of the posh house whilst gravel extractors are stealing the garden. Meanwhile, looming over the whole scene is the world's biggest greenhouse. It should be possible to identify the tram, but that's only going to be half the story.

Yes it is a bit awful isn't it! Sorry, this is one of the very few double-exposures and we can't do a great deal with it I'm afraid. The original Aerofilms Ltd Regiser entry says "dud". The glass plates before and after are of locations in Lancashire.

Just how many exposures are there?

I think the church[?], obelisk, tram and straight road are part of the same exposure.

Is the railway (single) line part of mineral workings?

Interesting double exposure - is it intended to show before and after? It seems to be a large, Victorian semi-gothic mansion. Any ideas?
