This was opened in 1899 on the Great Central line, which became part of the LNER in 1923, and BR's Eastern Region in 1948. Closed to passengers by BR in 1969. Full information and photos of the station can be found at http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/l/leicester_central/index.shtml.

(The Great Central was the last major main line to be built. Part of it to the north of Leicester has been restored as a heritage railway running to Loughborough with plans to link further north to Nottingham.)
