Hi

The Bell Holm existed into the 1970's (at least '76'77) following a fire in the late 1960's caused it to close and never re-open. As a child ( in the 1970's) I played in the grounds and buildings which were basically a shell with floor joists etc.

The grounds contained a pond full of Great crested newts and old fruit trees.

The building was eventually demolished and the land gifted to the national trust (I believe) and has reverted to more or less woodland and can be used by the general public.

Norfolk Arms now closed and converted to a private house. It looks as though there was some work being done at the south side of the building.

I have it!

After much research I can confirm that this is Mid Holmwood just south of Dorking on the A24. The view was taken from the northeast. The vegetation appears to have grown since 1920 when the photo was taken so that the aspect does not appear to be as open today. There are very few water features in this view and no railways but we do have the A24.

We should not be surprised at the location because one of the adjacent shots was taken at Mickleham about 5 miles north.

Thanks Class 31, spot-on. We'll update the catalogue and the revised record with your correct location will appear here in due course.

Think photo taken from North (or N/East). Field in bottom left is unusual.
