Bolsover Viaduct carried the Lancashire, Derbyshire & East Coast Railway over the river Doe Lea. It was demolished by the army in 1953, the line having closed in December 1951. The line ran from Chesterfield Market Place to Lincoln via Arkwright, Carr Vale, Scarcliffe and Langwith Junction.

Colliery waste heaps, known locally as "pit tips" or, occasionally, "slag heaps". The vertical columns carried continuous wires bearing tippers full of colliery waste which tipped their contents as they moved. The tip shown here rose to near the tops of the columns by the1960s. Similar arrangements where commonplace in British collieries. One features in the closing sequence of the film "Get Carter".

Coalite and Chemicals Ltd. retorts, where coal was heated to release tars and other chemicals, leaving "Coalite" smokeless fuel for domestic consumption. The chemicals were piped over Buttermilk Lane to the "Refinery" where they were separated using fractionating columns to be further processed for industrial and agricultural use.
