St Nicholas Church - the old parish church for Stevenage. Once a year on what was called Founder's Day all the boys and staff from Alleynes Grammar School would walk up The Avenue to the church for a special service to commemorate the school's founder Rev Thomas Alleyne. The school was founded in 1558 - a date that featured in the first line of the old 'School Song'. From what I remember, all the boys were encouraged to wear a red rose in their school blazer lapel on that day - the emblem of the school was a red rose.

I think this was the Old Town Post Office. In the late 1960s I passed here twice a day Monday to Friday walking from the White Lion bus stop to and from Alleynes Grammar School.

London Transport bus shelter. The buses and Green Line coaches used to pull off the Great North Road onto a sort of lay-by area. The White Lion was the terminus for many services and at this point the High Street was wide enough to turn a bus around.
