This is Whinney Lane connecting Victoria Road West down to Pelaw Main Staithes. My Dad would often walk me down here on his way to the staithes where he was a coal trimmer. I would be allowed to watch my uncles and him working.

When this aerial photo was taken in 1950 this area was the Rubbish Dump for Hebburn UDC. We called it 'The Tips'. As a little lad me & my mates used to play in this riverside area & I remember seeing tin helmets & gas masks strewn around. Because we were little kids we never questioned how did the come to be there.

The Pyrotenax on Hedgeley Road. They made copper clad cables that stood up to fire damage so were ideal for places such as the wiring in Warships.

An unused Reservoir left over from Industry. I think it was part of the Tennants Chemical Works process even though it was so close to the Bauxite works. As kids we played on it or caught sticklebacks. There was always a Raft that kids had made from spare wood & it wasn't a deep reservoir unlike the Copper Works dangerous one.

This was where 'The Bauxite' was. It was a company producing aluminium & the waste products were a reddish sludge which was dumped in hillocks near the works. I remember this red sludge as it stained clothing/footwear so we kept well away from it. The hillocks did have a fence around it though.
