The site of the White Horse pub in Middle Road - but where is it? According to their own website, the pub was was built in the 1920s (In actual fact, the current building only went up in 1956, despite looking older), but there had been a public house on the site for many years previously. What happened to the older building? There seems to have been a considerable gap between the demolition of the older pub and the building of the new one. Perhaps the delay was caused by the war and the shortage of building materials in the years afterwards. Housing would have been the priority.

The former South Harrow underground station building. Although replaced in the '30s, the old building still exists.

As can be seen by the smoke (no doubt foul-smelling) this was still a town gas production site. Within three years it would just be a gas storage facility. Now there is a Waitrose store on the site.
