This bit of the site looked as if it had been a tennis club or something similiar in pre war days., I remember there were two burnt out railway carriages that has probably been used as club houses. Impossible to spot in the photo. .

These pre-fabs, and the others close by were Nissan Hut shape. Built by U.S.Army 1944/45. All demolished in 1953/54

Huge bomb damage site between Barrington Road & St James Crescent. Known by all the kids in the area as'Fairyland' It was a fantastic playground, a complete wasteland with derelict houses and piles of rubble, quite dangerous but nobody worried about such things in those days, The area was redeveloped in the mid 1950s.

Tramway change pit, in the middle of the road. Trams switched from conduit to overhead (and V.V.)electrical supply. There was another change pit in Brixton by the Orange Coach Station in Effra Road.

Bombed site by Five Ways Corner. Unexploded bomb found in 1951 when they started rebuilding. I attended Loughborough Central School opposite and we were sent home at lunchtime.
