Steam traction engine on a Lowmac wagon. Perhaps an unusual load for the docks!

Possibly a British India Line troop ship, with distinctive black 'waist' line. Note frame for deck shading above the bow.

This could well be the 'Falaise', built for the Southern Railway by Wm. Denny & Bros Ltd of Dumbarton, and delivered to Southampton on 14 June 1947. The superstructure appears to match. The vessel had a maximum speed of nearly 21 knots and was powered by steam turbines generating 8,500 shaft horsepower; 3,710 gross tons. Used on the Southampton-St Malo service at this time.
