Does anyone know for sure when Providence Chapel was demolished? I've seen estimates ranging from late 1950s up to late 1970s.

Christ Church School. This is the school I attended from 1955 to 1958. The school was demolished and a house now stands on the site.

Hi I'm new to BFA, I'm wondering where Elder Place actually is on the picture as the pin doesn't appear to identified. I'm interested in looking at it closely. My father was born at No 9 in 1919. I remember him telling me it was cleared in the early 1970's. The only time I visited Elder Place it was a gravelled road with a row of garages.

I remember Elder Place in the late 50s/early 60s. It had no tarmac and was very rough. At one end was Elder Road, at the other were large gates leading into the back of Simpson Pottery Works. There was a row of five small terraced houses next to Simpsons back wall . My friend lived in the house next to Simpson's back wall (the last of the row of houses on the right) and I remember seeing large shards of glass concreted into the top of Simpson's high wall. My friend's house still had the old internal gas mantle fittings on the walls.

I lived at no.13 as a child from 1952 to September 1965 when Elder Place was subject to a compulsory purchase order. The houses were demolished in 1966. Elder Place fronted onto Elder Road and Hawthorne Street and was not restricted to the 'Elder Place' cul-de-sac currently shown on Google Maps
