This was the construction of the Ashford Bypass, so I guess it would have been part of the A20 which runs from Folkestone to London. The bypass ran from roughly where the M20 junction 10 is now to the 'Cow' roundabout (as it's locally known!) on the A20. Part of this road became the M20 motorway, the bit from junction 10 to just before junction 9. The rest of the bypass became part of Simone Weil Avenue, which runs past Sainsbury's up to the 'Cow' roundabout. Hope that helps! |

The Ashford bypass was started before WW2 but work was suspended until 1956. The road was officially opened in 1957 |
