Royal Ordnance Factory. Note the special bus bay facility on Long Lane - buses serving the hundreds of workers on this site. On some days you could hear automatic weapons being tested as far away as Cornett Road (to the north end of Long Lane near to the junction with Longmoor Lane) where I was brought up until moving away in 1973 - The ROF factory closed in 1960 |
