Site of locomotive turntable (70 feet diameter). At this time the turntable was out of action because of ground subsidence - a serious situation which made it impossible to operate the depot effectively until alternative arrangements were put in place in 1951. For this reason there are fewer express locomotives at the shed than there would have been had the shed been fully operational. '
