' George Street - much narrower then than now (2013). Much of the property on the left here was demolished in the 1930s and rebuilt after the war in the 1950s. The re-building left the street much wider and with gardens in front of the new shops/offices. This led to the street becoming known as George Square in the 1950s and for a while it became the centre point of the town, with many young people meeting up here before going out. '
