' This railway line was the line to Alton via Cliddesden and Lasham. There was a connection into Thornycroft's works. This line has the distinction of being opened twice and closed twice. It was originally opened throughout by the LSWR on 1st June 1901 but closed again on 30th December 1916. The rails were lifted and sent to France for use in the war effort. Strong local pressure forced the, by now, Southern Railway to relay and reopen the line on 18th August 1924. It finally closed to through traffic on 12th September 1932 although sections at each end remained open for freight traffic. The section to Thornycroft's was finally closed in 1967 '
