' Support structure for power supply wires for electric locomotives hauling coal trains from Shildon to Newport. This early railway electrification project was opened by the North Eastern Railway between July 1915 and January 1916 with electric locomotives, operating at 1500 volts DC, hauling trains of up to 1400 tons. During the early 1930s the service became commercially unviable and with the overhead equipment nearing the end of its life, electric locomotive haulage ceased at the end of 1934 to be replaced by steam haulage on 1st January 1935.
