' TSMV "Britannia 1" owned by Charles & Arthur Myall of 118 Hartington Road. 75ft long sister ship to the S.M.N.Co.'s 75ft l.o.a. TSMV "Julia Freak", Built using same moulds, by Haywards Boatyard of Burdett Road.Requisitioned for Operation Dynamo on 27th May, 1940. Taken to Dunkirk by her own volunteer Skipper & crew who were all offered T.124X Crew Agreement Forms to sign, - because by 1800hrs on May 28th, the RN had realised they'd run-out of "unassigned warm bodies" to put in charge of the "little ships". The 2nd Sea Lord had been forced to suspend the King's Regulation [tied to the 1931 Genevia Convention] that prohibited the use of civilians in a Combat Zone. "Britannia 1" survive Dunkirk, served through the rest of the War as a Riverine Minesweeper based out of Cliffe; and returned to passenger Service at Southend in 1946. '
