' Sumner Street, original tram terminal in Southwark Bridge Road. On 14th July 1925 Sir Alfred Bowyer, The Lord Mayor of London took the controls of decorated tramcar 1847, and drove across the rebuilt bridge to the new terminus at Queen Street Place. For only the third time the tramways of London had established a toehold in "The City" and it was to last for only 27 years as the last 46 to Woolwich departed on the 5th july 1952. The events of 1925 were recorded for posterity by Pathe and can be viewed on their website. '
