' Site of "Croydon Central" / "Central Croydon" station, closed in 1890. This was off a very short spur from the East Croydon-Brighton line, not far from East Croydon itself. By this time, the station had been closed for 38 years, but most of the route is still visible in this photo. The station site itself is now occupied by the Town Hall and Queen's Gardens. The Fairfield Halls occupy the original approach cuttings to the east, roughly where the route curves to join the Brighton Main Line. '
