Ind, Coope and Allsop's Brewery which continued to be a working brewery or distribution centre well into the 1990s. When I moved to Romford in 1956 and for the years afterwards there was always the distinctive smell of the hops being brewed hanging over the town. The site was cleared when the brewery closed and is now a huge shopping complex. Some of the original brewery buildings are still standing, the old office block which faces onto the High Street are still there as are the original brewery gates but the building has been remodelled and is now used for housing. '
