' St. Augustines R.C. Church built here and opened 1909 after the first church, on Granby Row, was in the way of area development for the large Engineering School and the road passing it, Whitworth Street. Unfortunately during the heavy bombing Manchester suffered in December 1940 the church was destroyed. The parish was then transferred over to its day chapel, The Holy Family, in Grosvenor Square (also known as All Saints). '
