Hi and thank you for your message regarding Flight AF3151. My sincere apologies for the delay in my response but unfortunately only saw your message last night. Your observation is a perfectly valid one and there are a couple of possible explanations. The first thing to mention is that the ‘flights’ on the website have been created by us on the basis of grouping images together by the date they were flown, and by geographic location rather than on any records Aerofilms kept. Unfortunately material such as log-books that might detail this kind of information have not survived. One possible explanation for the geographic spread might be that this grouping of images may actually be as a result of there being more than one ‘craft and photographer up on this day. Without any detailed records from Aerofilms it is impossible to say whether this is the case in this instance so the assigned ‘flight’ here could be a little misleading. However, another reason for the slightly odd geographic spread here might be due to the practice of Aerofilms both flying on a commissioned and speculative basis. It could therefore be that the images of the Tyne Dock were for a specific commission, and as the company were flying out of Stag Lane at the time took the pictures of Wembley, which wasn’t too far away, on the way up and then again on the way home. These particular images were the second to last set taken in 1927 and I think originally intended to be the last ones of the year. The remaining pictures are of snow scenes around Hampstead on 28th Dec. This would perhaps support this explanation with the need to complete a commission before the end of the year outweighing what might appear to be a slightly uneconomic decision to fly to South Shields and Wembley only. Hope this is of help and again apologies for the delay in my response. Kind regards, Angharad
