Original Merchiston Park football ground stood here. Used by East Stirlingshire 1882-c1907. The railway line was opened through here in 1908, when ESFC were playing at the new Merchiston Park behind the Burnbank Foundry just to the south.

Formerly Merchiston Park II, East Strirlingshire FC 1908-21. Replaced ground of same name a little to the north which made way for the Bainsford Branch railway, otherwise known as the Orchardhall branch, a joint North British/Caledonian Railway scheme to allow increasing volume of traffic bound for Grangemouth Docks to bypass Grahamston station. This section of the branch opened in 1908 and closed in 1968. The A9 Ring Road now uses the old rail route at this point.

My father Hugh Cameron worked at the Falkirk Foundry as a moulder in the 1930's when our family lived at 10 Mungalend Road. My uncle George (Geordie) and my grandfather William McTear also worked there. The Red Lion pub (owned at that time by Charlie Mullroy) was a regular watering hole for the moulders - it's still there on the corner of Bankside at the bridge, but no longer a pub.

Yes, my father George Bain McTear did work with his father and brother (Willy) at the iron works.

The footballer Willie Ormond of Stenhousemuir and Hibernian fame was brought up at Persia Row. Willie was two years younger than me. I lived with my family at the corner of Foundry Street at 231 Carron Road.
