The Dollis Brook Viaduct. Opened on 22 August 1867 by the Great Northern Railway on their branch from Finchley to Edgware. The branch is now the truncated Northern Line stub from Finchley Central to Mill Hill East and the viaduct is the highest structure on the London Underground network.

Hendon Brewery. One of the numerous independent breweries which were dotted all over London and Middlesex, this one was opened by a by James Robb in about 1855 and was later acquired by Arthur Crooke of Guildford who went on to buy several of local inns and taverns. The site was subsequently acquired by the Kilburn Brewery (Mitchell & Aldous), who were in turn acquired by Truman's. The brewery closed in 1959 and a Premier Inn now exists on the site, along with a rather blousey and oddly located Chinese restaurant and patisserie, which now seems to have closed down.

This row of peculiar tenemented buildings was known a 'the windjammers'. They were something that might have been more at home in Victorian Glasgow rather than in a part of Middlesex that would have been very rural at the time of their construction. They were built in the 1870s and seem to have been an early attempt at high-density housing. The middle three units appear to be bereft of their roofing, so perhaps demolition had already started.

The Red Lion pub. There had been an inn here since at least the 1850s. The most recent pub building was built in 1930/31 and demolished in 2009. A large modern care home now occupies the site.

Spurling Motor Bodies Ltd. The area continued to be knowns as 'Spurling's Corner' for many years after the company had gone. I think that the association may now have slipped from local memory.

The open air swimming pool where I learnt to swim, kinda. There was a kid in my year at the Hyde who's parents owned or ran the pool but I cannot remember his name.

I think it was known as " The Hyde" swimming pool. As a youngster, I worked there on " The grates" in the men's changing room. Must have been 11 or 12 years old at the time but got in for free.

The Hyde Junior & Infants School (as I knew it). I was born in Edgeware in 1952 & this was my school. The Headmaster was Mr Hedges. My Parents lived in Pollard Rd off West hendon broadway until we were all moved out for "redevelopment".

Dear Freddy I was born in Pollard Rd in 1945. What was your parents name? I may have known them. Also any other families you may remember. I have so many happy memories of West Hendon. Although a very poor area we didn't know any different and we had the rec and the harp at the bottom of the road. What more could a kid want?
