Yes, a passenger train in the Up Slow line platform with a tender engine and 9 6-wheel coaches. Probably a workmen's service? Regular passenger trains would have had bogie stock by 1927, I think.

There are other photos from this flight that are dated as 1927. This fits with the 1927 date for Edward Morgan School, as Shottongal says

Shottongal, what date would you put on this photo? The shot clearly shows The Central Hotel, yet doesn't show The Central School on Rowley's Drive.

Draig, I'd put the photo between March 1927 and Oct 1929. As you say the old Central School hasn't been built in the photo. The school opened in Oct 1929. However, you can see the RC school (Venerable Edward Morgan) now used for Social Services. That school was opened March 1927. If you, or anyone else can find out when the labour exchange was built that should pinpoint it. (Incidentally, my father [deceased] worked at the labour exchange in the early 1960s). Looks like the picture was taken in the summer. All the shops on Chester Road have the canopies out!

Image is taken looking East over Shotton. The main identifiers are the Chester to Holyhead railway line crossing the image from middle left to top right. The Wrexham to Bidston line crosses the image from middle right to top left. The River Dee is at the top of the picture.

I agree with Draig this is definitely Shotton looking North East. The Alhambra was built in 1919. I Used to go to Sat morning pictures there in the 60s. Shotton CP School (my primary school) can clearly be seen with St Ethelwold's C of E school next to it (now demolished, like the Alhambra). The double gabled building with the dark roof in the grounds of Shotton CP School is the old school dining room where we used to have school dinners there. I can also make out the Station Hotel (now The Clwyd) at the top of King Edward St (where I lived), Rivertown Church and The Central (now JD Wetherspoons). Fascinating picture. Note for Britain from Above: this is not Connah's Quay, it's Shotton. Please amend. Thanks.

This is definately not Connah's Quay. It is the next town, Shotton. The building with the light roof is The Alhambra Cinema - demolished to make way for Tesco.

The building under constructionat the lower centre is the labour exchange - now Christchurch
