Swing bridge installed to take the 'Silvertown Tramway' across the lock when the Royal Victoria dock and this access lock were first built. The line between Stratford and North Woolwich was deviated around the north side of the new dock for passenger traffic in particular. The swing bridge remained in use for some while, but photographs on this site show it was removed in 1937 or 1938.
