A brilliant spot Andrew Bennett. It is so good to know the location of this one. It wasn't in Gloucestershire at all. I'm so happy that you have provided us with a location. Well done.

Is there a clue here? What are these three buildings? Is the one fronting the road an office, the larger building perhaps a workshop and the smaller building used for storage?

Is this a school perhaps?

At the time of this photo, Yes.

Now it's a nursery, a new school has been built just to the east.

Are they signs on the right front and end walls? Could this be a public House?

Along with the church, this is part of Usk Priory http://www.monasticwales.org/site/40.

We linked to this image from the @AboveBritain twitter account and had a few suggestions about the general location. Someone suggested it looked like north-west England, possibly north Lancashire or south Cumbria, and another twitter user suggested it could be in the Midlands, possibly Leicestershire. Does that give anyone any more clues?

Without looking at your comment Class 31, I wondered about Gloucestershire. Only the high order buildings are in what could be a honey coloured stone. There is no thatch.

Strange that what appears to be a small place clustered around the church should have a gas works ... are we looking a village on the edge of a larger settlement ... somewhere down that straight road?

I guess sometimes it comes down to getting the right person with the local knowledge to see the picture.

I am amazed that this photo has remained unlocated for so long. There are quite a few clues to aid us with identification but it remains a mystery. I have scoured Gloucestershire and drawn a blank. They are all easy when you know the answer but for the present no one knows. Please can you identify this location?
