Calling it Citroen Motor Works is a bit of a misnomer, altho they did sign up to lease the former main workshop with an option on 60 adjoining acres of land in 1925 at least in my young days (the 50's)they never had a huge presence. I think the main workshop (in the middle?)part of which they did occupy is all Mars now. To backtrack what is now Slough Trading Estate was built at the end of WWI to repair all the motor vehicles which were bought back from France and as far afield as India. Other pics in this series show serried ranks of damaged vehicles in what was farmland. Older people still call it "the Dump". A consortium, amongst them the Mobb family (who are still involved with the estate) bought the site and vehicles (about 20,000 at Slough perhaps 5,000 abroad) from the War Office for £7m and repaired and sold the vehicles then turned the old (mostly wooden) buildings covering about 1.8 million sq feet into a trading estate.It already had it's own railway system connected to the GWR mainline just west of Slough, it's own power station and water boreholes.

Nearby Cippenham, from a small cluster of houses when my dad was born, grew and grew into a huge dormitory for the estate which it still is. Dad worked at St Helens Cable & Rubber on the estate.
