Motive power depot with what looks like a Beattie well tank outside.

I would be very surprised if it were a Beattie Well Tank (LSWR class 0298). Of the 85 built between 1862 and 1875, 82 had been withdrawn from service by 1899. The remaining 3 had been allocated to run the Wenford Bridge branch of the Bodmin and Wadebridge railway in Cornwall in 1895 and there they remained until withdrawn in 1962. See http://www.semgonline.com/steam/0298_01.html for further details.

We see here the unique track layout at Dorchester South Station. The station had originally been designed to be easily extendable directly westwards. In the event a sharply curved extension to the Great Western's line to Weymouth was constructed which meant that up trains ie trains towards London had to reverse into the platform. This has now ceased.
