Marsh Lock. A lovely place to go for a stroll on a warm summers day, and then continue along the river to Shiplake Lock a further 2 miles away. As children we would go across the bridge to the meadows and go for a paddle or even a swim.

Allotments opposite our house. Later developed into light industrial units. George Stowe's was here, who made large water pipes. Later the site was taken over and redeveloped by Perpetual.

Site of the Old Henley Town Football Club playing pitch, which had a small grandstand on the right hand side. As children this was where we played away from the main Reading Road. Also to the right of the large tree was the local Boy Scouts hut.

Mill Lane leading down to Marsh Lock on the river. The bridge over the railway replaced an earlier level crossing naturally named "Mill Lane Crossing"

This building was where I had my first job. At the time it was owned by GDS (General Decorating Supplies) a company that supplied all the local decorating shops in the surrounding area. This particular building where I worked was the wallpaper section, where we would prepare orders for the shops to go out the next day. Across the car park was the main offices and paint department - today it is Henley library. About once a month we would take delivery of a huge HGV full of boxes of different wallpapers which we had to unload and then sort.

This was Jacksons - a gentleman's outfitters. They had a big department store at Jackson's Corner Reading. Up to the time I was a teenager this was where we bought most of our clothes, school uniforms etc.

Could be a Thames Valley bus - terminating point of service 8 from Reading through Binfield Heath and Shiplake War Memorial.Would catch this service from a stop opposite our house in Reading Road when going to Reading, always sitting on the top deck at the front above the driver.
