The majority of the District Railway stock in the works at this time appears to be B Stock; the first generation wooden bodied multiple unit stock of 1904/05. The B Stock trailer cars also had wooden underframes. B stock was found not to be sufficiently robust and had a relatively short service life. At around the time of the photo, the trailers were taken out of service and the motor cars (which had steel underframes) were rebuilt as steel bodied trailers that were operated in conjunction with newer stock.. '
