' Walthamstow Trolleybus Depot. Built by Walthamstow Urban District Council for the opening of their tramway system on 3rd June 1905. Enlarged in 1928, taken over by LTPB in 1933, and enlarged further for the coming of the trolleybuses which commenced running on 18 October 1936. The depot had a capacity for 107 trolleybuses which operated on seven different routes - 623 Woodford - Manor House; 685 Crooked Billet - Canning Town; 687 Chingford Mount - V&A Docks (via Wanstead Flats); 697 Chingford Mount V&A Docks (via Abbey Arms); 699 Chingford Mount - V&A Docks (via Greengate), 557 Chingford Mount - Liverpool Street; and 581 Woodford - Bloomsbury. On six different occasions the depot sustained war damage - twice during the blitz and for times due to flying bombs and rocket resulting in damage to 20 trolleybuses. Conversion to diesel buses commenced on 14 April 1959 when route 581 was withdrawn, then on 2 February 1960 route 557 disappeared, and the final blow landed a few weeks later on 26 April 1960 with the loss of routes 623, 687, 697, and 699.
