' The spur from Fletcher's Canal has long been infilled. At around this point a roadway passes which carries lorries to the tile company. I visited this site in 2016 when researching the Botany Bay Colliery. It was reported by security personnel at the company gate that recently the road had collapsed, it was thought into a cellar! The road has been repaired by a reinforced concrete slab, Following the line of the canal to the railway bridge it can be seen that the bridge has been infilled with dressed stone. At this point the canal spur entered the workings of the Botany Bay Colliery where coal was loaded onto barges. Records of the colliery and others were destroyed by war bombing and then by fire! In some research it has been said that there is an underground canal system from Botany Bay colliery, passing through Robin Hood, Wet Earth, Spindle Point Colliery workings and beyond! If only the locals new what lay under their feet the amazing industrial heritage, and conditions that colliers worked. If anyone has any information please share! '
