Great Eastern Hertford East terminus station. Built a distance away from the town centre to avoid the prison and Christ's Hospital school (see http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/h/hertford_north/index.shtml) and opened in 1843. Only named Hertford East in 1923, after railway grouping brought the two Hertford stations under the same railway company, the LNER. '
