South Foreland Lighthouse, the first in the world to be electrically powered in 1859. It was also the site of the first ship to shore radio transmission and the first international radio transmission (from Wimereux in France)when Guglielmo Marconi conducted experiments here in 1899. This lighthouse is now owned by the National Trust and is opened to the public. '
