I'm with 'tramwayman on this, I also think it is the Stormy Down quarry which of course is much larger today. I have had a look on Google Earth and along the edge of the quarry runs Heol-Y-Splott (that's the name of the road), there is an overhead cable tower there, similar to the one in this photo. I'm not saying it's the same one but the National Grid are sticklers for keeping these towers/pylons in the same place, so they don't have to update their maps! '
