Whomerley Wood and Monks Wood, which now form part of the Fairlands Valley Park, between Bedwell and Shephall. In the late 1940s, this contributor used to walk, with family and friends, along the footpaths for picnics in Monks Wood, via Fairlands and Bedwell Plash, before the New Town was built. '
