The Britain from Above website will soon be changing. The good news is you’ll still be able to search for and view the fantastic Aerofilms images. You’ll also be able to continue to add your comments, photographs and pins– enabling you to carry on sharing your memories and knowledge about places and buildings with other users of the website. The new site will be designed for use on mobile phones and tablets so you’ll be able to do all of this on the move!
During the life of the Britain from Above project, over 250 Groups were set up by users with interests in specific places or themes. Since the project ended, these have been less active and it now makes sense to freeze the Groups. While this means you won’t be able to start any new groups or add any more content you’ll still be able to view what has been added in the past. We’ll also be highlighting some of the amazing resources which were created by these groups, which are a legacy of the project.
These changes will be taking place over the next few weeks and some functions on this site will be unavailable while we carry out this work.

From 23rd of May until 30th May, users will no longer be able to login or register on this site. Thanks for your patience.

Casgliad Aerofilms

Ar wefan Prydain oddi Fry ceir lluniau sy’n dod o gasgliad Aerofilms, yr archif unigryw o awyrluniau sydd o bwys rhyngwladol. Yn y casgliad hwnnw ceir 1.26 miliwn o negyddion a thros 2000 o albymau o ffotograffau. Mae’r casgliad cyfan, sy’n dyddio o’r cyfnod 1919-2006, yn cynnig darlun di-ail o’r newidiadau ym mhryd a gwedd Prydain yn yr 20fed ganrif. Ynddo y ceir y nifer fwyaf, a’r pwysicaf, o’r awyrluniau a dynnwyd o Brydain cyn 1939. Am fod y casgliad hefyd yn amrywiol ac yn cynnwys golygfeydd o fannau trefol, maestrefol, gwledig, arfordirol a diwydiannol, mae’n cynnig tystiolaeth bwysig i’n helpu i ddeall a rheoli’r amgylchedd adeiledig a’r amgylchedd naturiol. Crëwyd y casgliad gan Aerofilms Cyf, cwmni a fu’n arloesi ym myd arolygu o’r awyr ers i ddau gyn-filwr o’r Rhyfel Byd Cyntaf, Francis Lewis Wills a Claude Grahame-White, ei sefydlu ym 1919. Ehangodd Aerofilms ei gasgliadau drwy brynu dau gasgliad llai, sef rhai AeroPictorial (1934-1960) ac Airviews (1947-1991). Prynodd Comisiwn Brenhinol Henebion Cymru (CBHC), English Heritage (EH) a Chomisiwn Brenhinol Henebion yr Alban (RCAHMS) y casgliad mawr iawn hwn o awyrluniau hanesyddol oddi wrth Blom ASA yn 2007.

Prosiect Prydain oddi Fry

Prosiect pedair-blynedd oedd Prydain oddi Fry, a’i nod oedd sicrhau cadwraeth 95,000 o’r ffotograffau hynaf a mwyaf gwerthfawr yng nghasgliad Aerofilms – y rhai sy’n dyddio o’r cyfnod 1919-1953. Ar ôl gwneud gwaith cadwraeth arnynt, cânt eu sganio i fformat digidol a’u rhoi ar y wefan hon i’r cyhoedd eu gweld. Roedd modd cyflawni’r prosiect am iddo gael grant gan Gronfa Dreftadaeth y Loteri a chymorth Sefydliad Foyle a rhoddwyr eraill. Mae yna dros 95,000 o luniau ar y wefan nawr. Mae’r wefan yn cynnig cyfle i rannu a chofnodi’ch atgofion a’ch gwybodaeth am y lleoedd sydd i’w gweld yn y casgliad.
